A touching and funny family saga that raises the question:  "What does it mean to be Jewish?"  Family matriarch Rosa Rashevski believed that a tango was as good as chicken soup and a whole lot better than organized religion - in times of stress or sorrow.  She hated rabbis and religion but shocks her family by reserving a plot in the Jewish cemetery.  Rosa’s death at age 81 sets off identity crises and soul searching among three generations of Rashevski's who don't know how to handle her burial.  As her extended family gathers for the funeral trying to decide if all the mourning customs should be observed, the film presents us with the kaleidoscope of Jewish life in one modern European family with Holocaust survivors, twenty-somethings, inter-marrieds, newly-observants, non-observants, converts, Israelis, diaspora-dwellers, circumcised, uncircumcised, Reformed and Orthodox.  The film is a delicate mix of sophisticated, witty satire, thoughtful drama and affectionate exploration of the multiplicity of Jewish lives in the modern world.  Rashevski’s Tango is an impressive, assured feature debut by director Sam Garbarski
Audience favorite of all the films this year to-date at Jewish Film Festivals in America.
