SUMMARY:EADWEARD (Canada)
DESCRIPTION:SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PREMIERE \nEADWEARD is the perfect movie to play both at a film festival and an art museum. \nIt recounts the endeavors of the real-life Eadweard Muybridge\, whose 19th-century photographic methods would serve as a template for what became movies. It is also a visually captivating film\, beautifully shot by cinematographer Tony Mirza. \nMuybridge\, played by Michael Eklund\, is an obsessive observer of motion: horses galloping\, humans jumping. In the 1880s\, he took more than 100\,000 photographs as part of a study for the University of Pennsylvania. His retinue included his much younger wife\, Flora (Sara Canning)\, officious interns and nude models who would demonstrate disrobing\, broom-sweeping\, bucket-pouring and wrestling before a row of 24 cameras. \nPornography? “No\,” says Muybridge. “This is science. This is Life.” \nMuybridge was a mad genius of sorts. With his laser focus and dogged determination\, he could be a cousin of Daniel Plainview in “There Will be Blood.” He also takes a turn down a dark road when he suspects his wife of cheating on him. \nFirst-time feature director Kyle Rideout\, who co-wrote the screenplay with Josh Epstein\, has a marvelous touch when it comes to embracing Muybridge’s photographic passions. Lenses are aligned\, awaiting the perfect tint of natural light. On cue\, the subjects swirl\, twirl\, skip and dance. They are becoming immortalized in the synchronized steps of the first ‘motion pictures’\,”  ….. written by Cleveland Museum of Art \nWriters:  Josh Epstein\, Kyle Rideout\,\nDirector:  Kyle Rideout\nRunning Time:  104 minutes\nGenre:  Drama\nDistributor:  Motion 58 Entertainment or Telefilm Canada\nCountry:  Canada\nLanguage:  English\nRating:  PG | Contains non-erotic nudity\nStars:  Michael Eklund\, Sara Canning\, Christopher Heyerda \nFESTIVALS:  Germany: Berlin International Film Festival\, Munich International Film Festival; UK: Edinburgh International Film Festival; USA: Cinequest Film Festival\, San Jose\, Cleveland International Film Festival\, Nashville Film Festival\, Brooklyn International Film Festival \nAWARDS:  British Colombia Leo Awards: Best Supporting Performance by a Male\, Best Production Design\, Best Costume Design\, Best Make-Up\, Best Hairstyling; Maui Film Festival: Audience Award Best Narrative Feature Independent\, Best Feature Cinematography; Nashville Film Festival: Audience Choice Award Best Feature; Southwest Airlines Audience Award Narrative Competition. \n“Kyle Rideout’s Eadweard is a painstakingly beautiful portrait of Eadweard Muybridge (Michael Eklund); an early pioneer of photography and inadvertent grandfather of cinema.  Fittingly\, Tony Mirza’s cinematography is exquisite and precise from the first frame to the last\, but the film flies the flag for impeccable craft on all fronts: immaculately styled\, inventively staged and carefully edited … “Stage Buddy \n  \nWebsite:  http://www.telefilm.ca/05/516/berlin/2015/en/films/category/253/view/eadweard/2203 \nTrailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VAds0GH_8E \n  \n  \n  \n

The Tower reminds us that the slogan “the personal is political” applies more than ever in a world where privacy has all but vanished\, and any intrusion can be justified in the interests of security.” – Stephen Holden\, The New York Times \nTHE TOWER reveals the intimate realities of life behind the Berlin Wall.  Based on Uwe Tellkamp’s acclaimed novel\, heralded as “one of the most important books of European post-War literature\,” THE TOWER portrays senior surgeon Richard Hoffmann\, his wife Anne\, their teenage son Christian\, and their community of privileged intellectuals in suburban Dresden. \n  \nWriters:  Uwe Tellkamp\, Thomas Kirchner\nDirector: Christian Schwochow\nRunning Time:  120 mins.\nGenre:  Drama\nDistributor:  Music Box Films\nCountry:  Germany\nLanguage:  German w|English sbutitles\nRating:  N|R\nStarring:  Jan Josef Liefers \, Claudia Michelsen\, Sebastian Urzendowsky\, Nadja Uhl \nAWARDS:  Adolf Grimme Awards\, Germany: Best Director\, Writer\, Production Designer\, Actor and Actress; Bambi Awards Reader’s Choice; Bavarian TV Awards\, Best Actor and Actress; Golden Camera\, Germany\, Best Actress; Hessian TV Award\, Best Actress; Jupiter Award\, Best German TV Film;  Romy Gala\, Austria\, Favorite Actor \n“‘The Tower’ offers solid performances and stories that hold interest. SUMMARY:HIPPOCRATES - Diary of a French Doctor (France)
DESCRIPTION:COACHELLA VALLEY PREMIERE \nClosing night of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week\, Hippocrates\, Diary of a French Doctor is a darkly comic portrait of a Paris hospital as seen through the eyes of a young intern\, Benjamin\, played by Vincent Lacoste (Eden)\, who begins his internship at the hospital ward run by his father.  Confident and determined that he will quickly become a successful doctor\, Vincent soon realizes that the reality of the medical world is a lot grimmer than what he had imagined.  He is also overshadowed by his co-junior partner Abdel\, a foreign doctor\, played by Reda Kateb (Lost River\, Zero Dark Thirty) who’s obviously more competent than he is but who’s forced to work as an intern because of his immigrant status.  When Vincent makes a medical error\, his father quickly covers it up but Abdel is not fooled… \nA charming counterpoint to shows like Greys Anatomy and House\, Hippocrates\, Diary of a French Doctor is framed as a rite of passage set against a social backdrop and offers an ultra-realistic vision of the French public medical system.  Helmed by Thomas Lilti\, an M.D. himself\, the film was a box-office hit in its native France\, earned Reda Kateb a Cesar for best supporting actor\, and is currently touring US festivals such as Rendez Vous With French Cinema in New York and COLCOA in Los Angeles. \nOpened in New York June 19\, 2015\nWriters:  Pierre Chosson\, Baya Kasmi\nDirector:  Thomas Lilti\nRunning Time:  102 minutes\nGenre:  Drama\nDistributor:  Distrib Films US\nCountry:  France\nLanguage:  French w|English subtitles\nRating:  N|R\nStarring:  Vincent Lacoste\, Jacques Gamblin\, Reda Kateb\, Marianne Dennicourt \nFESTIVALS:  France: Cannes Film Festival\, Champs-Elysées Film Festival\, Paris Cinéma\, Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême\, Gindou Film Festival; Switzerland\, Festival du Film Français d’Helvétie de Bienne; Australia\, Canberra International Film Festival; Turkey\, Istanbul Film Festival; China\, Beijing International Film Festival; USA\, Philadelphia International Film Festival\, RiverRun International Film Festival\, NC; Philippines\, French Film Festival \nAWARDS:  César Awards France\, Best Supporting Actor\, Reda Kateb \n“A scathing yet touching social dramedy that depicts the sketchy underside of a French public hospital“ … The Bottom Line \nOfficial website w/Trailer: http://www.distribfilmsus.com/our-movies/hippocrates-comingsoon/

SUMMARY:24 DAYS (France)
DESCRIPTION:For Israeli audiences\, this scenario may sound horrifyingly familiar.  A young man is kidnapped and brutally tortured.  Except this didn’t happen this summer\, but eight years ago – and in Paris.  The victim was Ilan Halimi\, a 23-year-old Parisian Jew whose murder has come to symbolize the rise of anti-Semitism in modern-day France. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJanuary 20\, 2006.  After dinner with his family\, Ilan Halimi called an attractive girl he had met at work and made plans to meet her for coffee. Ilan did not suspect a thing; he was 23 and had his whole life ahead of him. The next time Ilan’s family heard from him\, it was through a cryptic online message from kidnappers demanding a ransom in exchange for their son’s life…. \nFrench director Alexandre Arcady delivers one of the most “wrenching and politically astute” films to come out of France over the past year (Screen Daily).  Based on a book co-written by the victim’s mother\, Ruth Halimi\, Arcady’s cinematic adaptation offers a vicious circle of dangerously realistic events: from the kidnapping  and torture of Ilan Halimi at the hands of the Gang of Barbarians\, to the the 600-plus phone calls\, insults\, and threats received by the family\, though the Parisian police’s incompetence in dealing with what was clearly an anti-Semitic crime. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWriters:  Alexandre Arcady\, Emilie Frèche \nDirector:  Alexandre Arcady \nRunning Time:  110 minutes \nGenre:  Drama \nDistributor:  Menemsha Films \nCountry:  France \nLanguage:  French w|English subtitles \nRating:  N|R \nStarring:  Zabou Breitman\, Pascal Elbé\, Jacques Gamblin\, Éric Caravaca\, Sylvie Testud \n  \nFESTIVALS:  Toronto Jewish Film Festival\, Vancouver International Film Festival\, Canada; Jerusalem Film Festival\, Israel; Jewish Film Festival\, Australia; UK Jewish Film Festival\, UK; Boston Jewish Film Festival\, Cucalorus Film Festival (NC)\, Palm Springs International Film Festival\, USA \n  \nAWARDS:  Lia Award\, Jerusalem Film Festival\, Israel \n  \n“French director Alexandre Arcady delivers one of the most wrenching and politically astute films to come out of France.”  Screen Daily \n  \nOfficial Website w|Trailer and Press Kit:  http://www.menemshafilms.com/24-days

SUMMARY:WELCOME TO KUTSHER'S: THE LAST CATSKILLS RESORT (USA)
DESCRIPTION:One of the legendary Borscht Belt hotels during its heyday\, Kutsher’s was family-owned and operated for over 100 years.  Exploring the full Dirty Dancing-era Catskills experience— and how it changed American pop culture in the comedy\, sports and vacation industries— this award-winning documentary captures a last glimpse of a lost world as it disappears before our eyes. \nThe Catskills resorts were not only a Jewish refuge and family vacation paradise\, they also gave birth to American stand-up comedy\, the NBA All-Star Game\, and all-inclusive resorts.  This film brings to life how Kutsher’s thrived at the center of all this growth and excitement.  Watch Wilt Chamberlain both playing ball and working as a bellhop at Kutsher’s; Red Auerbach as the Kutsher’s Sports Director; and Kutsher’s Maurice Stokes benefit game create an All-Star basketball tradition.  Laugh with appreciation at Freddie Roman as his classic Borscht Belt routine still brings down the house\, and wonder in amazement as Andy Kaufman wrestles a female Kutsher’s guest for $50.  Marvel at the abundance of hearty kosher feasts where no one can get away with ordering just one main dish\, and the non-stop whirl of recreational activities.  And as the Catskills decline and the end of an era draws near\, witness a final twist: can an indie music festival reinvent Kutsher’s for a new generation?  The story of Kutsher’s is uniquely American. \nDirectors:  Caroline Laskow\, Ian Rosenberg \nRunning Time:  73 minutes \nGenre:  Documentary \nDistributor:   Menemsha Film \nCountry:   USA \nLanguage:  English \nRating:  N|R \n  \nFESTIVALS:  USA: Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival Special Event\,  The New York Jewish Film Festival at Lincoln Center\,  Miami Jewish Film Festival\,  Palm Beach International Film Festival\, Long Island’s Pergament Jewish Film Festival\,  Jewish Ensemble Theater / JCC of Detroit Jewish Film Festival\, Hartford Jewish Film Festival\,  Rochester Jewish Film Festival\,  Charlotte Jewish Film Festival;  Sensoria Festival\, UK; Athens Jewish Film Festival\, Greece \n  \nAWARDS:  The New York Jewish Film Festival at Lincoln Center – Closing Night Selection\, Best Documentary Audience Award at Miami Jewish Film Festival \n  \n“One priceless moment in the film that’s worth noting is the footage of a young\, seven-foot-plus Wilt Chamberlain who\, while working as a bell hop at the resort\, wouldn’t bother to climb the stairs. He’d simply wait for you to open your window\, then hand your luggage up to you on the second floor.” David Fagin\, Huffington Post \n  \nOfficial website w/Trailer:  http://www.kutshersdoc.com/ \nAdditional website w/Teaser and Press Kit:  http://www.menemshafilms.com/welcome-kutshers
