Astrid Thompson finally succeeds in fulfilling her father’s dream of bringing together four Stradivarius instruments for a unique concert eagerly awaited by music lovers the world over. But Lise, George, Peter and Apolline, the four virtuosos recruited for the occasion, are unable to play together. Rehearsal after rehearsal leads to one ego crisis after another. With no solution in sight, Astrid decides to seek out the only person who, in her eyes, can still save the event: Charlie Beaumont, the composer of the score.

THE MUSICIANS opened Unifrance’s Rendez-Vous market showcase in Paris earlier this year and has been sold to many countries around the world.
A charming, music-centered comedy, the film centers on a wealthy woman who brings together four Stradivarius for a unique concert but the egos of the virtuoso musicians make it seem impossible the event will ever happen.
The cast is led by filmmaker and actress Valerie Donzelli, whose “Marguerite & Julien” screened in Competition at Cannes, while Frederic Pierrot plays a composer who might save the day.
The quartet comprises real musicians.
Director Gregory Magne previously made 2019 romantic comedy drama “Perfumes”, starring Emmanuelle Devos.
Pyramide Distribution released the film in France on May 7 where it opened to the #1 spot at the Box Office!
The reviews are in and praise for the film is unanimous:
“A filmmaker of connection and the senses, Grégory Magne, after “L’Air de rien” and “Les Parfums,” offers us his most accomplished, sensitive, and funny film. A magnificent ode to beauty and living together.” BANDE A PART
“Given the subject matter, it’s no surprise that “The Musicians” quickly takes on the feel of an ensemble film. A complex form of storytelling that Grégory Magne masters brilliantly.” ABUS DE CINE
“Beneath its vaudeville exterior, a comedy without false notes and of great elegance about music and the quest for harmony.” ELLE
“Director Grégory Magne skillfully portrays the world of music and its human tensions, blending emotion, comedy, and precision. The Musicians stands out for its precise interpretation, carried by actor-musicians who actually play their instruments, and by an original soundtrack by Grégoire Hetzel.” LA CROIX
